There are many interesting details about the 2003 Starlight Lane Christmas decorations including:
- Christmas lights are on every night from 5:00-10:00 P.M. from December 1 to December 31 weather permitting.
- Over 30,000 sparkling lights!
- The roof of the house can easily be spotted by passing aircraft! It is covered with over 6000 white lights.
- Handcrafted Christmas Star is 30ft. tall.
- All rows of lights wrapping around the house are double-stranded.
- 300ft. of fence line are covered with icicle lights.
- In an effort to reduce electricity consumption, most of the lights are the miniature type. Larger displays, figurines, and even the spot lights use fluorescent bulbs.
- The entire display will use over 2500 kilowatts of power for the month.
- The setup of the display uses over 3000ft. of nylon string and 1000ft. of twist-tie material.
- The display takes over 200 hours to setup. Hundreds of hours are spent yearly purchasing new items, designing and building new displays, and repairing older displays.
- Take-down of the display is the worst part. Over 300 hours are spent taking lights and displays down. Each display is broke-down and packaged for use next year. Every strand of lights are individually inspected, wrapped, and tagged in a zip-lock bag.
- Every night during December it takes about one hour to turn on and inspect everything. Probably 20-30 bulbs and flashers are changed nightly-the hard part is finding which bulb.
New features this year include:
- Animation
- Live animals
- Nativity set
- Hand-crafted 25ft. tall "floating star" display.
